Once upon a time

It is now two and a half years ago since i was a boat co-owner on the mekong river.

We were in Vientiane, the capital of Laos. Tero i knew from the trip from Moscow to Beijing with the trans-mongolian railway. The other guys, Josh and Andy, we met by accident in a coffee shop when i overheard them talking about buying a boat. We had similar goals it seemed, so it made sense to pursue them together. We wanted a boat, and we got a boat. We picked it up in Savannakhet after 4 days of touring central Laos on motorbikes.

The trip up the mekong river took us 7 days and brought us to Paksan, where we traded the boat for some beer, whiskey, cigarettes and soy milk. We slept on small sand islands on the mekong, swampy beaches and in the grass. We visited villages, met heavily armed people who went to fetch gas for our engine. We encountered 2 heavy thunderstorms, one of them while trapped on an island in the middle of the mekong.

It was the best thing i ever was a part of.
