Mt Batur in Bali
Sep 3, 2011Mount Batur is an active volcano on the island of Bali, Indonesia. If you look at it on google maps, it becomes clear that there was once a much bigger mountain that blew up and left this tiny bump in the middle.
You can also see a large black area. People used to live there before the latest eruption.
A tour can be booked that starts in the middle of the night so you can enjoy the sunrise from the top. You can get a tour including transportation from the tourist hot spots in Bali, but i chose to go to the area the day before and explore the surroundings by motorbike. The walk up is not hard, although the smokers in my group needed frequent breaks. Made me feel like a champion. There are a lot of people up there every morning enjoying the breathtaking scenery.
